Belarus Programme

The programme aims  to strengthen the capacity of civil society organisations in Belarus regarding democracy, human rights and equality.

The Belarus Programme is being implemented to provide direct support to Belarusian civil society. Applying organisations/initiatives should be non-political, non-profit, non-religious and work towards democratic development based on the equal value of all people and respect for human rights. Both individual organisations/initiatives and coalitions of two or more Belarusian organisations/initiatives are eligible to apply for projects.

*Projects of individual activists, governmental organisations, as well as business organisations cannot be supported in the framework of this Programme

In its work Forum Syd is employing the Rights Based Approach (RBA). This approach involves empowering and enabling people to exercise their rights, while at the same time increasing accountability and capacities of institutions and individuals responsible for the provision of those rights. Project’s relevance to the RBA will be the central criteria for its approval. Projects should be aimed at achieving positive and sustainable change in society on the local and/or national level.

Selection process will be guided by the values of non-discrimination, gender equality and respect for the environment, as well as by following priorities and focal points:

  • development of civil society in the regions of Belarus, work with local initiatives and activists in smaller towns/villages
  • cooperation of organisations from different thematic areas, coherence and solidarity of civil society; crosssectorial and innovative cooperation with different actors
  • greater visibility of civil society and outreach to citizens
  • active participation and empowerment of citizens

Budget: up to 100 000 euros. Timeframe: up to 30 months

To apply, fill in and send the enclosed concept note form (not more than 2 pages of A4 format) and budget to belarus@forumsyd.org with email subject “Call for applications 2019”. The ideas for projects that are relevant for the context of Belarus and priorities of the Programme will be assessed in the first stage of selection. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to fill in the full application form. The concept note and budget forms can be filled out in English, Russian or Belarusian languages.

The call is announced on an open window basis, meaning that there is no deadline for submission of concept notes until further notice.
